‘Spider-Man 4’ Moves to July 2026 to Avoid Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’

February 22, 2025 – Sony has officially shifted the release date for Spider-Man 4, starring Tom Holland, from July 24, 2026, to July 31, 2026. The move gives Holland a two-week gap between the Marvel blockbuster and Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic, The Odyssey, set to premiere on July 17, 2026.

The adjustment is strategic, allowing The Odyssey to enjoy an exclusive IMAX run before Spider-Man 4 enters theaters. Nolan, known for his long-standing relationship with IMAX, shot The Odyssey with the format’s signature high-resolution cameras, ensuring a premium theatrical experience. Sony is also expected to release Spider-Man 4 in IMAX and other large-format screens, making the shift beneficial for both films.

This scheduling decision comes after Sony officially confirmed Holland’s return as Peter Parker four months ago, following the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). The new installment, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, is set to begin production this summer, though no additional casting has been announced. It remains uncertain if Zendaya, who played MJ in the previous trilogy, will reprise her role.

Meanwhile, The Odyssey has already begun filming and boasts a star-studded cast, including Matt Damon as Odysseus, alongside Zendaya, Mia Goth, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo.

With two major releases featuring Holland arriving just weeks apart, summer 2026 is shaping up to be a blockbuster season for the actor.
