Dwayne Johnson & Leonardo DiCaprio Unite for Scorsese Crime Drama

Hollywood heavyweights Dwayne Johnson and Leonardo DiCaprio are set to collaborate on an upcoming crime drama described as Goodfellas meets The Departed. Directed by legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese, the untitled film is based on true events surrounding a ruthless mob boss who fought to control the Hawaiian underworld.

The film, set in the 1960s and 70s, will follow the rise of a charismatic crime leader who built a powerful empire across the Hawaiian islands while simultaneously waging war to preserve his ancestral land. According to Deadline, the story will delve into the violent conflicts between rival crime factions and mainland corporations, making for a gripping and high-stakes narrative.

Johnson, DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt have all signed on to star in the film, though their specific roles remain under wraps. In addition to acting, the trio will also serve as producers alongside Scorsese, writer Nick Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn.

This marks a significant collaboration between Johnson and Blunt, who previously worked together in Disney’s Jungle Cruise and the upcoming sports drama Smashing Machine. Reportedly, it was Johnson and Blunt who initially pitched the idea to Scorsese and DiCaprio before bringing in Bilton to develop the script.

Meanwhile, DiCaprio and Scorsese continue their long-standing partnership, having worked together on acclaimed films such as The Aviator, The Departed, Gangs of New York, The Wolf of Wall Street, and most recently, Killers of the Flower Moon.

The duo is also involved in the highly anticipated The Devil in the White City, a real-life serial killer adaptation recently picked up by 20th Century Studios. With their latest crime thriller, audiences can expect another cinematic masterpiece blending gripping storytelling, intense performances, and Scorsese’s signature directing style.

Further details, including the official title and release date, are yet to be announced.
