Daniel Craig Exits DC Studios’ War Movie ‘Sgt. Rock’

Daniel Craig has officially stepped away from Sgt. Rock, the upcoming DC Studios war film that would have reunited him with director Luca Guadagnino. The movie, based on the iconic DC Comics character, had a script penned by Justin Kuritzkes, known for his work on Challengers and Queer.

Sgt. Rock, created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, first appeared in 1959 and follows a fearless World War II soldier leading the legendary Easy Company. Hollywood has attempted to bring the character to the big screen for decades, with stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis once being considered.

While the exact reasons for Craig’s departure remain unclear, sources suggest scheduling conflicts with his wife, actress Rachel Weisz, may have played a role. Others believe his decision was influenced by the disappointing box office and awards season performance of Queer, his previous collaboration with Guadagnino.

Despite Craig’s exit, DC Studios is moving forward with plans to shoot the film in the U.K. this summer and is actively seeking a replacement. Among the names being considered is The Bear star Jeremy Allen White.

DC Studios has yet to comment on the situation.
