A devastating road accident has occurred in Bolivia, a country in Latin America, resulting in the death of at least 31 people and injuries to many others.
According to a report by the news agency Reuters on Tuesday (February 18), the incident happened when the driver lost control of a passenger bus, causing it to plunge nearly 800 meters off a mountainous road.
Local police reported that at least 31 people were killed, and more than a dozen others were injured in the accident, which took place on Monday.
How the accident happened
A police officer from a local hospital stated that the bus driver likely lost control of the vehicle, which led to the crash in the southwestern Yocalla municipality. The bus fell from a high-altitude location, dropping approximately 800 meters (2,625 feet) below.
Casualties and injuries
Among the injured, 10 adults and 4 children were rushed to the hospital. Several of them were placed in intensive care, a hospital official confirmed in a video statement.
Possible cause of the accident
The mountainous road where the accident occurred is known for its sharp turns and winding paths, according to a police officer. He also noted that the speed of the bus could have been a factor in the crash.
