U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Starmer is set to visit the United States in the coming weeks, according to a report by British news agency Reuters.
On Friday (February 14), Starmer’s office stated that the Prime Minister had discussed his U.S. visit with Trump over the phone the previous day.
Speaking to journalists at the White House, Trump mentioned that Starmer had once again requested a personal meeting with him.
He said, “We are going to do it – a friendly meeting – very good.”
Trump and Starmer first met in New York in September last year. On Thursday (February 13), while meeting with U.S. Ambassador Mark Burnett in London, Starmer had a phone conversation with Trump.
The British Prime Minister’s office at Downing Street confirmed that they discussed the upcoming U.S. visit.
Trump stated that the meeting would take place “very soon.” He added, “I think he (Starmer) wants to come next week or the week after.”
Reuters noted that British Prime Ministers are always eager to meet with U.S. Presidents, as they believe in a “special relationship” between the two countries.
