Modi Meets Tulsi Upon Arriving in Washington

This is Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first visit to the United States since Donald Trump’s return to the White House. The Prime Minister’s Office of India announced that Modi will meet President Trump on Thursday. Their agenda includes multiple bilateral meetings, with experts speculating that key topics will include immigration policy and tariffs.

During his 36-hour visit to the U.S., Modi has six bilateral meetings scheduled. Reports indicate that on Thursday at 4:30 PM, Trump and Modi will meet at the White House. Their discussions are expected to cover a range of issues, including the recent debate on illegal immigration, Trump’s trade policies, defense, security, and technology.

Following the meeting, Trump and Modi are also scheduled to have dinner together. Later, they may hold a joint press conference from the Oval Office.

Since taking the oath for his second term, Trump has already met with three world leaders before Modi—Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II. Modi will be the fourth head of state to meet Trump.

However, before meeting with the President, Modi met with U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard upon arriving in the country. The Indian Prime Minister discussed various aspects of India-U.S. relations with the head of America’s 18 intelligence agencies. Modi shared a photo of their meeting on his social media handle.

Upon arriving in the U.S. early Thursday morning, Modi was overwhelmed by the warm welcome he received. A large crowd of Indian expatriates gathered in Washington, D.C., waving national flags to greet him. He interacted with them and shook hands. Sharing pictures of the event on X, Modi wrote, “A warm welcome on a cold day. Despite the freezing weather, Indian expatriates came to welcome me. I am grateful to them.”

During his visit, Modi is also expected to meet with SpaceX CEO and Tesla chief Elon Musk. Their discussions may include Starlink’s entry into the Indian market.
