British Railways to Celebrate 30th Anniversary of ‘DDLJ’

One of the most commercially successful films in Bollywood history, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), is approaching its 30th anniversary. The romantic film, loved by fans worldwide, solidified Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as one of the most iconic on-screen pairs in Bollywood. The film’s success has not only resonated in India but also garnered widespread international acclaim. The iconic scenes shot at various railway stations in the UK continue to stay etched in the hearts of viewers.

Released on October 20, 1995, DDLJ is now nearing its 30th year. To mark this milestone, the film’s team has a series of special plans. However, it’s been confirmed that British Railways will also be joining in on the celebration.

The majority of the film was shot in the UK, including several scenes at London and Manchester’s railway stations. Kings Cross Station holds special significance, as it’s where Raj and Simran first meet and express their love for each other.

This year also marks the 200th anniversary of Britain’s modern railway system. In celebration of this historic occasion, British Railways has teamed up with Yash Raj Films to celebrate DDLJ’s 30th anniversary. Together, they will host a cultural event titled Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical.

The event will feature live performances of the film’s popular songs, key scenes, and various aspects of the story. Additionally, 18 English songs, blending Eastern and Western melodies, will be performed, and the iconic scene of Raj and Simran’s first meeting will be specially recreated on stage.

In a statement, Suzanne Donnelly, Executive Director of ‘Railway 200,’ said, “For many years, railways have inspired filmmakers. It’s not only a means of transportation but also a vital part of culture. To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Britain’s modern railway system alongside the 30th anniversary of DDLJ is a matter of great pride for us.”

The event will begin at Manchester Opera House on May 29 and will run until June 21. However, it is still uncertain whether Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, or other members of the film’s team will attend the celebration.
