The illegal and unconstitutional occupying, murderous, fascist Yunus government is conducting ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ to suppress opposition voices and solidify its illegitimate grip on power. Through this joint operation, more than 1,500 people have been arrested in the last two days. This illegitimate occupying government is establishing a reign of terror to ensure that the people cannot raise their voices for their rights. By carrying out mass arrests, this unlawful regime has adopted a scorched-earth policy to silence the country’s citizens.
Hundreds of innocent people, including nursing infants with their mothers, have been imprisoned merely for their political beliefs. Elderly parents have been arrested when their sons were not found. Akhtar Shikdar, Joint Secretary of the Awami League’s Madhupur Union in Terokhada Upazila, Khulna district, was arrested by the joint forces, brutally tortured, and later died in custody. This is nothing short of a hunting festival where human lives are sacrificed to satisfy the bloodthirsty rulers in their pursuit of an uncontested kingdom of horror. Instead of calling it ‘Devil Hunt,’ it should be named ‘Innocent People Are Hunted by the Devil.’
This information was revealed in a press release issued by the Bangladesh Awami League on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
The Press Release States:
With the direct backing of the government, state-sponsored terrorism has incited mobs to destroy the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at 32 Dhanmondi, a place deeply associated with the memory of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the glorious history and heritage of Bangladesh’s Liberation War. Following this, under the leadership of so-called coordinators, mobs have launched continuous attacks, vandalism, arson, and looting on the homes of nearly fifty Awami League leaders and activists in different parts of the country. However, in Gazipur, the local people successfully resisted a violent mob attack on the home of Gazipur District Awami League President and Minister for Liberation War Affairs, A.K.M Mozammel Haque, preventing looting and destruction.
Fearing the people’s unbreakable united resistance, this illegitimate government has now launched ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ as a war against its own people to protect the criminal mobs it has nurtured. Following the Gazipur resistance, nearly 300 people have been arrested in Gazipur alone, in addition to the mass arrests taking place nationwide. Despite the government’s attempts to suppress the people’s voices, citizens across the country are rising against the looters and criminals, organizing resistance in their own way.
Furthermore, the illegal government’s actions have sparked widespread condemnation both nationally and internationally. To divert attention from these criticisms, an advisor to this unlawful regime has attempted to frame the mobs as ‘devils’ in a political narrative. However, the government’s own actions reveal the truth—those involved in mob violence are clearly identified, yet none of them are being arrested. Instead, the real devils are being sheltered by the illegitimate rulers themselves.
Nevertheless, on behalf of the Bangladesh Awami League, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the people of Bangladesh for standing firm against these demonic forces. At the same time, we call upon the nation to join the pre-announced programs of Bangladesh Awami League—a torchlight procession on February 17 and a strict dawn-to-dusk hartal (general strike) on February 18—to ensure their success.
With the united resistance of the people, we shall defeat this evil force—InshaAllah!
Joy Bangla!
Joy Bangabandhu!
Long Live Bangladesh!
