Terrorists, Not Students, Behind Vandalism at Bangabandhu’s House: Harsh Vardhan Shringla

Former Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh and former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla has expressed concern over the recent vandalism at Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence at 32 Dhanmondi in the capital. He stated that it was not students but terrorists who were behind the incident.

He made these remarks on Saturday at an event titled “India’s Foreign Policy Roadmap with Focus on Immediate Neighborhood” in Bidhannagar.

Harsh Vardhan Shringla said, “The house at 32 Dhanmondi is not just Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence; it was also a memorial, archive, and repository of documents from the Liberation War of 1971. I believe this is an attempt to destroy the spirit of the Liberation War. No students were involved; those responsible were all terrorists. This is not at all a pleasant situation for the people of Bangladesh.”

He further stated, “Ensuring Bangladesh’s security is very important to us. India shares its longest border with Bangladesh, so any instability or adverse situation in the country will have repercussions for us as well.”

Referring to recent changes in Bangladesh, he remarked that the country’s secular narrative has shifted.
