BJP Returns to Power in Delhi, Modi Calls It a Victory for Good Governance

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has secured a landslide victory in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections. With this win, the BJP has returned to power in Delhi after more than two decades. As per early election results on Saturday, the BJP was leading significantly.

According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP has won 48 out of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly. To form the government, any party or coalition needs at least 36 seats.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the BJP’s massive victory in Delhi by posting on social media. He described the win as a triumph of “development and good governance.”

In his post, Modi stated, “Salute and congratulations to all my brothers and sisters on BJP’s historic victory… I am deeply grateful to each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart.”

He further assured, “We guarantee that we will leave no effort behind in ensuring the all-round development of Delhi and improving the lives of its people.”

The Prime Minister also expressed his pride in BJP workers, acknowledging their relentless efforts in securing this significant win. He added, “Now, we will dedicate ourselves even more firmly to serving the people of Delhi.”

For the first time in over twenty years, the right-wing Hindutva-oriented BJP has won the Delhi Assembly elections. By defeating Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), BJP supporters erupted in celebrations. Even before the final vote count was completed, the BJP’s victory was confirmed, leading party members to gather at the BJP headquarters and rejoice.

As per the Election Commission’s official results, the BJP has won 48 out of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly, while AAP has secured 22 seats. The opposition party, the Indian National Congress, failed to win any seats.

In the previous election held in 2020, AAP had won 62 seats to form the government. Similarly, in the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, Kejriwal’s party secured a massive victory with 67 seats.
