Lady Gaga Makes Political Statement on Trans Rights

At the 2025 Grammy Awards, several artists used their platform to address important issues, with Lady Gaga and rapper Doechii standing out for their political and social statements.

Lady Gaga, alongside Bruno Mars, won the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their hit “Die With A Smile.” During her acceptance speech, Gaga took a stand for the trans community, a poignant moment following recent controversial executive orders by President Trump. “Trans people are not invisible,” she declared. “Trans people deserve love, the queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love. Thank you.” Her powerful words were met with applause, highlighting her continued advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights.

Meanwhile, Doechii made history as only the third female artist to ever win the Grammy for Best Rap Album. Her mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal, earned the honor, with the Florida-born rapper paying tribute to her predecessors Lauryn Hill and Cardi B. “There are so many black women out there that are watching me right now, and I want to tell you, you can do it,” Doechii said, urging young women to overcome stereotypes and be true to themselves. “Anything is possible. Don’t allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you… You are exactly who you need to be.”

In another highlight of the night, Sabrina Carpenter won two major awards: Best Pop Solo Performance for her summer hit “Espresso” and Best Pop Album for Short n’ Sweet. Carpenter’s wins came as part of a significant year for female artists, showcasing the rising influence of women in the music industry.

The 2025 Grammys highlighted both outstanding music and strong voices advocating for equality and empowerment in a year that saw a diverse range of powerful performances and social statements.
