Naomi Ackie Teases Star Wars Return in Upcoming Movie

Naomi Ackie, who played the character Jannah in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019), has responded to questions about her potential return to the Star Wars universe. The actor was asked if she’d reprise her role in the highly anticipated, yet delayed, Star Wars movie New Jedi Order. Her response? “Ask them. Star Wars, get it together! I get a call, we’ll see what happens, I’ll see if I’m free!”

Jannah, a fierce warrior who fought against the First Order, left fans with many questions about her backstory and future. Ackie previously shared in 2020 that she saw potential for a Star Wars spin-off centered on Jannah, noting that her character has a “rich backstory” and an unexplored future. “Jannah was a completely new character, and I like the idea that the Star Wars universe is expanding,” she said.

Regarding speculation about Jannah being the daughter of Lando Calrissian, Ackie remained tight-lipped, responding with a playful “my lips are sealed” and teasing, “That’s my answer.”

New Jedi Order, set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, will focus on Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker as she trains a new generation of Jedi. George Nolfi, writer of The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s 12, will pen the script, while documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is set to direct.

In other Star Wars news, the next movie to begin production is from Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy, with Ryan Gosling reportedly in talks to star. Jonathan Tropper will write the script for this upcoming project.

For now, fans will have to wait and see whether Jannah—or Naomi Ackie—will return to the galaxy far, far away.
