Donald Lu Steps Down From The Position of U.S. Assistant Secretary of State

Donald Lu’s tenure as the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs has ended.

The U.S. State Department confirmed the completion of his tenure. According to the department’s website, Donald Lu’s term as Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs ended on January 17.

According to information from the U.S. State Department’s website, Donald Lu became the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs on September 15, 2021.
Joe Biden assumed office as the President of the United States on January 20, 2021. Approximately eight months after Biden took office, Donald Lu was appointed as the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs.

President Biden’s term ended on January 20, the same day Donald Trump assumed office as the new U.S. President. Three days before Donald Trump took office, Donald Lu’s tenure as the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs came to an end.

Donald Lu has over 30 years of experience working with the U.S. government, during which he served in various significant roles.

Before becoming the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Lu served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic from 2018 to 2021 and as the U.S. Ambassador to Albania from 2015 to 2018.
