Canada’s New Initiative On Immigration And Customs Issues At The Canada-US Border

Canada has moved to set up a new ‘processing centre’ in Quebec as the number of illegal immigrants at the Canada-US border increases. The center will be located in Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Quebec, near the US border. The center will provide waiting room, food distribution and other emergency services for up to 200 refugees at a time.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said this is part of the Canadian government’s preparations to deal with the sudden influx of immigration. Although the rate of immigration has decreased a bit recently, the threat of immigration and human trafficking has increased again due to Donald Trump’s coming to power in the winter season.

Last week, six immigrants were arrested while illegally sailing the border between the minus 3-5 in the Manitoba Emerson border area of Canada. They are from Jordan, Sudan, Chad and Mauritania. Ambulance is called for treatment due to lack of winter clothing and ill. They were coming to Canada, walking from the United States in fear of the Donald Trump administration.

Such an incident has happened before. Two Ghana citizens lost their fingers in the snow in the 21st, and in 2022, an Indian family members died of frozen when they were bordering the border.

Analysts believe the pressure and immigration challenges of the Trump administration are creating a new exciting relationship between the two countries. In addition to ensuring the safety of refugees, the Canada-US tariff conflict is now a major challenge for Ottawa.
