Trump’s Foreign Policy to Center on Three Core Questions: Safety, Strength, Prosperity

Rubio Outlines Bold Agenda for Second Trump Administration’s State Department

Washington, D.C., January 22, 2025 — Marco Rubio, newly sworn in as America’s 72nd Secretary of State, unveiled his strategic vision for the Department of State, outlining a clear and focused foreign policy agenda aimed at advancing America’s national interests under President Donald Trump’s second term.

In a press statement, Rubio emphasized the administration’s commitment to realigning foreign policy around three core questions: “Does it make America safer? Does it make America stronger? Does it make America more prosperous?”

“This is the highest honor of my professional life,” said Rubio, highlighting his resolve to lead a State Department that prioritizes innovation, efficiency, and practicality while staying laser-focused on core national interests.

Key Policy Priorities

1. Securing Borders and Stopping Illegal Migration
Rubio underscored the administration’s plan to curb mass migration, calling it a “top priority” for U.S. diplomacy. “The State Department will no longer engage in activities that encourage or facilitate mass migration,” he said. Efforts will focus on working with Western Hemisphere nations to secure borders, stop illegal and destabilizing migration, and negotiate repatriation agreements for illegal immigrants.

2. Rewarding Merit and Ending DEIA Programs
The Secretary vowed to implement President Trump’s executive order abolishing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) programs throughout the federal government, including the State Department. Rubio emphasized a shift toward rewarding performance and merit as the foundation for building a stronger diplomatic corps.

3. Returning to Pragmatic Diplomacy
Rubio criticized previous administrations’ focus on what he termed “divisive political and cultural causes” and announced a return to fundamental diplomacy aimed at building cooperative relationships with other nations. “Our mission is to advance America’s core national interests, not to promote political agendas abroad,” he declared.

4. Protecting Free Speech
In a sharp critique of recent censorship debates, Rubio announced the termination of State Department programs that could suppress free speech. “While we will combat enemy propaganda, we will do so with the truth,” he said. “America is a great and just country whose leaders now prioritize its core interests.”

5. Ending Climate Policies That “Weaken America”
While affirming the importance of environmental protection, Rubio stated that the administration would reprioritize energy policies to restore American energy dominance. “Diplomacy will support President Trump’s vision of energy independence and strength,” he said.

Vision for the Future

Rubio described a State Department focused on navigating the challenges of great power competition while empowering its diplomatic corps. “Amid today’s reemerging great power rivalry, our mission remains clear: make America safer, stronger, and more prosperous,” he concluded.

This bold agenda reflects President Trump’s broader vision for his second term, signaling a shift in U.S. foreign policy that prioritizes national interest and pragmatism over globalist and ideological considerations.
