Princess Diana’s Secret Dance Teacher to Star in Upcoming Documentary

A fascinating new documentary is in the works, revealing a side of Princess Diana that few knew about. Based on the memoir Dancing With Diana, the film will explore the princess’s close relationship with her secret dance teacher, Anne Allan, a Scottish/Canadian dancer who co-choreographed Diana’s iconic ‘Uptown Girl’ routine at Covent Garden in 1985. The 90-minute feature documentary, which is set to be produced by Sphere Media and Two Rivers Media, will showcase Diana’s private dance lessons, her personal struggles, and the deep friendship she shared with Allan during a transformative period of her life.

Allan, who taught Diana for nine years starting in 1981, recalls the princess’s passion for dance and how their sessions served as both a creative outlet and a safe space for Diana to express herself away from the public eye. The documentary will delve into the princess’s personal challenges, including her famous marriage to Prince Charles, her experience with bulimia, and the intense pressures of royal life.

“I’m thrilled that Sphere Media and Two Rivers Media have chosen to bring Dancing With Diana to the screen,” said Allan. “It’s a very special partnership, and I hope this documentary will offer viewers a deeper understanding of just how extraordinary Diana was.”

The documentary will feature rare archival material, including photos, personal gifts, and notes from the princess, alongside new interviews with royal insiders, celebrities, and those closest to Diana. Viewers will also get an inside look at Diana’s transformation from a shy newlywed to a global superstar, from her unforgettable performance to Uptown Girl with Wayne Sleep at the Royal Opera House to dancing with John Travolta at the White House.

Dancing With Diana promises to shed new light on the princess’s life, offering an intimate portrayal of the woman behind the headlines. The documentary is set to be distributed globally by Sphere Abacus.
