Sydney Sweeney Takes on Iconic Poe Role in Upcoming Film

Sydney Sweeney is set to take on another major role, following her busy 2024. The Euphoria star has landed the lead in The Masque of the Red Death, a darkly comedic and wildly revisionist adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s 1842 short story. The film, a collaboration between A24 and Picturestart, will be directed and written by Charlie Polinger.

The original story follows a prince who retreats to his abbey to escape the deadly plague known as the Red Death. While details of this new adaptation remain under wraps, the reimagining promises to bring a fresh, twisted perspective to Poe’s classic tale.

Sweeney is currently in production for The Housemaid, in which she stars alongside Amanda Seyfried. Based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel, The Housemaid follows a struggling woman (Sweeney) who takes a job as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, only to uncover their dangerous family secrets. Directed by Paul Feig, the film is set for a US release on Christmas Day 2025.

Sweeney’s diverse upcoming roles show her range as she continues to solidify her place in Hollywood. Fans can look forward to these thrilling projects in the near future.
