Real Madrid President Perez Unopposed Again

Florentino Perez has been elected president of Real Madrid for another four years. The 77-year-old businessman will serve as Real’s president until 2029, the club’s election board said. Starting from 2009, Perez was elected the head of the most successful club in Europe for the fifth time. Like the previous four times, Perez was elected president unopposed. After the Real Madrid-La Palmas match in La Liga last night, the statement issued by the club said, “Since there is only one candidate in the election, the name of Perez has been announced as the president of Real Madrid.”

Perez, a businessman by profession, is the president of Real Madrid for the sixth time. First took charge in 2000 and resigned in 2006. Perez, who has been in office since 2009, requested the club’s electoral board to start the election process on January 7.

After 10 days, Perez’s candidacy was approved as the only candidate. According to Real Madrid’s bylaws, candidates are declared unopposed if there are no alternative candidates. Real Madrid’s football and basketball teams won a total of 65 trophies during Perez’s two-period five tenures. Among them are 7 UEFA Champions League and 3 Euro League championships.

As president, Perez is the most successful head of the century-old club. Although in terms of time, Santiago Bernabeu was president longer than him. Bernabeu was the president of Real for 34 years and 264 days from 1943 until his death on June 2, 1978. Perez, the second longest-serving player, has already passed 20 years.
