How Donald Trump Will Take the Oath

According to Article Two of Section One of the U.S. Constitution, Donald Trump will take the oath as the 47th President of the United States.

The oath states: “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

During his first term in 2017, Donald Trump took the oath holding a Bible that was also used by Abraham Lincoln in 1861. Additionally, he used another Bible gifted by his mother. It is reported that this time, Trump will again use those same Bibles during his swearing-in.

As per tradition, the Vice President takes the oath before the President. This time, the Vice President will be J.D. Vance. On the day of the ceremony, everyone, including the outgoing President, his cabinet, the newly elected President, and his new cabinet, will enter the Capitol building in a procession.

The President, Vice President, and cabinet members take the oath by raising their right hand and placing their left hand on the Bible. Typically, the President’s spouse holds the Bible during the oath. Afterward, the new President delivers a speech. Finally, the former President and First Lady formally leave the White House.
