What Awaits Gaza?

Gaza is now facing uncertainty and a challenging situation. After 15 months of Israeli attacks, a ceasefire agreement has been reached. However, experts are warning that doubts remain about whether this peace will be long-lasting. As a result of Israeli aggression, every city and family in Gaza is struggling amidst destruction. Although some prisoners have been released in the initial phase of the ceasefire, the future for the people of Gaza remains bleak.

According to analysts, the first six weeks could be the hardest for Gaza’s residents. A section of the Israeli government opposes the ceasefire. Their goals are clear—to occupy Gaza and expel the Palestinians from there. In particular, hardline right-wing Israeli ministers have taken a stance against the ceasefire. The national security minister even resigned in protest of the ceasefire. Consequently, there is skepticism about whether this ceasefire will lead to lasting peace. Many view it as merely a temporary pause.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Gaza is worsening. Around 2.3 million people have lost their homes and taken refuge in camps. The shortage of food, water, and the harsh winter conditions have made the situation even more difficult. Although aid deliveries have started following the ceasefire agreement, the aid is insufficient, and ensuring its safe delivery inside Gaza remains a significant challenge.

While the people of Gaza have found some relief after the ceasefire declaration, their future remains uncertain. Overcoming the devastation and the dire circumstances they face will not be easy. In particular, questions are being raised about the reconstruction of homes and the assurance of aid for those returning from refugee camps.

Additionally, Hamas’s commitment to the ceasefire agreement is also a factor. However, its success largely depends on Israel’s goodwill. So far, the decision regarding the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza remains unclear.
