Napoli Win In A Thrilling 5-goal Match At Atalanta

In addition to consolidating top spot, Napoli also avenged their first ever defeat in the league.

In the high-voltage match between the two title contenders, Napoli conceded goals early on. However, they turned around from being persistent in the goal. Atalanta did not give up. In a dramatic battle with repeated twists and turns, Napoli finally smiled. The 2022-23 champions won the Serie A match 3-2 at Atalanta on Saturday night. Atalanta clearly dominated the match in both ways, whether in possession or in attack. They have 15 shots on goal with over 55 percent possession and six on target. Napoli had three on target with six shots and all three were successful.

Matteo Retegi’s goal in the 16th minute of the match led Napoli to equalize with Matteo Politano’s goal in the 27th minute. The visitors took the lead in the 40th minute through Scott McTomin. Ademola Lukman’s goal in the tenth minute of the second half gave Atalanta the hope of continuing their unbeaten run. But the hosts could not repay Romelu Lukaku’s goal in the 78th minute. Atalanta got the bitter taste of defeat after 15 matches in the league. The last time they lost was on September 24, 3-2 against Como.

Atalanta beat Napoli 3-0 at home in the first appearance of their almost four-month unbeaten run on November 3. This time, Napoli took revenge for that loss. Napoli’s sixth straight win in their bid to reclaim the league crown. They are on top with 50 points in 21 matches with 16 wins and 2 draws. Inter Milan are in second place with 44 points after two games less. Atalanta is third with 43 points in 21 matches, equal to Napoli.
