Napoli’s ‘New Maradona’ Signed For PSG

Some say ‘Georgian Messi’, some say ‘Kavarincha’. But Khicha Cavaraskeia is most popularly known as ‘Cavaradona’. The Georgian winger, who played in Napoli, has now signed for the French club PSG. The French club have confirmed Kavaraskeia’s contract until June 2029. According to ESPN, PSG are paying Napoli a €60m transfer fee for Kavaraskeia. There is another 1 million euros as an add-on. The 23-year-old winger is contracted to Napoli until 2027.

Kavaraskeia was PSG’s first signing in the January winter transfer window. PSG have been chasing the winger, who joined Napoli in 2022, since last season, especially when Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid was confirmed. But Napoli did not want to leave him. Last week, Napoli coach Antonio Conte said Cavaraskeia had asked to be released. “It was a dream to come here,” Kavaraskeia said after officially signing for PSG yesterday. I’ve heard a lot of positive things about Paris Saint-Germain. I am proud to join here.’ Kavaraskeia was linked with Liverpool, Manchester United and Barcelona before signing for PSG.

Cavaraskeia, who joined Napoli for €1.33 million, won Serie A in his first season, Napoli’s first trophy in 33 years in Italy’s top flight. The club had previously won the last Serie A under Argentine legend Maradona. Kavaraskeia scored 5 goals and 3 assists in 19 matches for Napoli in the current 2024-25 season. He may make his debut in PSG today in the match against Lans in Ligue A. PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi said of Kavaraskeia, “Khicha is not only one of the most exciting footballers in the world of football today, but also a player with a fighting and courageous temperament for the team.”

PSG are now at the top of the French league with 43 points from 17 matches. Marsh is 7 points behind in second place. However, the position of Luis Enrique’s team in the UEFA Champions League is wavering. At the end of 6 rounds, PSG’s position is 25th out of 36 teams. The last sixteen must be in the top 24 to play in the playoffs. PSG’s next match in the Champions League is against Manchester City next Wednesday.
