84 Lawyers Arrested on False Murder Charges Amid Growing Concerns Over Bangladesh’s Law and Order

Dhaka, April 6, 2025:
In a concerning escalation, 84 lawyers have been arrested across Bangladesh on what are widely seen as false accusations of involvement in murders. The arrests, which have sparked outrage among legal and civil rights groups, are believed to be linked to the lawyers’ alleged political affiliations with the ruling Bangladesh Awami League.

Critics claim that the charges against the lawyers are politically motivated, raising serious questions about the state of law and order in the country. The arrests have ignited widespread concern about the safety of fundamental professions like law and journalism, which are crucial for upholding justice and democracy.

The detained lawyers, many of whom are known for their advocacy for human rights and free speech, have reportedly been sent to jail without trial, with no clear evidence supporting the accusations. This has fueled suspicions that the government is using the justice system to silence political opponents and critics.

The arrests are part of a broader crackdown that has also targeted journalists and political activists, who are being persecuted for simply doing their jobs. Many citizens fear the erosion of basic freedoms and the rule of law under the current administration.

Human rights organizations have called for immediate legal recourse and the release of the detained individuals, as well as a halt to the ongoing crackdown. The situation continues to unfold, with growing calls for justice and a return to a fair and impartial legal system in Bangladesh.
