Trump Says Iran War Could End After US Midterm Elections

- October 05, 2026, 04:02 AM ET

WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has said the ongoing war with Iran could end soon, possibly shortly after the country’s midterm elections.

Speaking at an election rally at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Alabama, on Friday, Trump said the United States was having difficulty finding an Iranian counterpart with whom it could negotiate.
“I don’t know who to talk to. There’s nobody to talk to,” Trump said, according to Al Jazeera. He added that there was no clear Iranian leader willing to engage in negotiations.

Trump also reiterated his opposition to Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, saying Tehran “will never have a nuclear weapon.”

The US president claimed that Iran’s military capabilities had been severely weakened, saying the country had no navy, air force, radar or air-defence systems.

Trump also described Iran’s economy as being “on the way to destruction” and claimed inflation in the country was around 310 percent.

Asked when the war might end, Trump said: “It’s going to be over very soon, probably right after the election.”

Trump also referred to the US-led pressure and blockade against Iran, describing it as an “iron wall”.
He predicted that global oil prices would fall rapidly once the war ends.

“As soon as the war ends, oil prices are going to come down very quickly,” Trump said.

He also said the United States would soon begin replenishing its Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the country’s emergency stockpile of crude oil.
