NEW YORK — US President Donald Trump told the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday that while other leaders had talked about peace, his administration had taken action to establish it.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Trump said he was unwilling to allow “dangerous people” to grow stronger and argued that the United States had demonstrated its strength under his leadership.
“Where others have only talked, I have taken action. Where others have talked about peace, I have made peace. Where others have ignored threats, I have confronted them,” Trump said.
He also said that while other countries had spoken about courage, the United States had demonstrated it, and that he had used American power to make the country “the strongest in the world.”
Trump devoted part of his address to Iran, saying there was currently no greater threat than the Islamic Republic.
He accused Iran of growing into a threat to the world and said he would not allow that to continue. Trump also reiterated that he would not allow Iran to become a nuclear power.
The president’s remarks came against the backdrop of the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. According to the report, the United States and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28, followed by a 40-day war. A ceasefire was subsequently reached but did not take effect, the report said.
Trump’s comments at the UN formed part of a broader defence of his administration’s foreign-policy approach, emphasizing military strength, confronting perceived threats and preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
