Police recovered the bodies of five unidentified people, including a woman, from separate locations across Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, on Monday, Sept. 14.
The bodies were recovered from Jatrabari, Motijheel, Shahbagh and Kamrangirchar. None of the five had been identified as of Monday, and the bodies were sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies. Police said several appeared to have been homeless or living on the streets.
In Jatrabari, police recovered the body of an unidentified man, estimated to be about 45, beside a road near the Shonir Akhra U-turn. Sub-Inspector Md Asaduzzaman Jewel said local residents told police the man frequently wandered in the area. Police initially suspected he may have collapsed and died from illness.
In Motijheel, an unidentified man, about 50, was found unconscious on a road opposite Notre Dame College. A pharmaceutical company representative took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment at around 11 a.m. The man who rescued him suspected illness and lack of food may have contributed to his death.
An unidentified woman, estimated to be about 30, was found sick near Dhaka Medical College Hospital in Shahbagh. Hospital staff arranged treatment for her, but she died at around 11:15 a.m. It was unclear how she came to be at the location.
Police also recovered the body of an unidentified man, about 65, from the Jauyahati area of Kamrangirchar. Local residents said they had frequently seen him in the neighborhood but did not know his identity.
Another unidentified man, estimated to be about 30, was found dead on a sidewalk near the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Shahbagh. His body was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.
Police said efforts were underway to establish the identities of all five. The causes of death will be determined after autopsies.
