Bangladesh Awami League President and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of two army personnel in an accidental incident during a field firing exercise in Hathazari, Chattogram.
The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday when a tank was firing during a field exercise. Soldier gunner Rifat (No. 1008201) and soldier operator Abu Bakar Siddique (No. 1008096) were killed in the accident.
In a condolence message, Hasina said she was deeply shocked and saddened by the deaths of the two “brave and patriotic” members of the armed forces. She conveyed her heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families.
Army officer Captain Mirza Mahiyuddin (BA-10585) was also seriously injured in the incident and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. Hasina wished him a speedy recovery.
She said the two soldiers had the potential to make further contributions to the country and the armed forces, describing their deaths as an irreparable loss to the nation.
Hasina said their sacrifice would be remembered and would serve as an example for other members of the armed forces, strengthening their commitment to protecting the country.
She also prayed for the eternal peace and forgiveness of the souls of the deceased.
