A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League activists staged a flash procession in the Anannya Residential Area of Chattogram city early Friday morning, despite local police saying they had no information about the march.
The procession was reportedly held around 7am on Friday (August 28) near the Anannya Residential Area. Participants were heard chanting slogans including, “Sheikh Hasina will return, Bangladesh will smile,” along with other slogans.
The march was led by Asif Tushar, an organiser of the Raozan upazila unit of Chhatra League. Around 15–20 activists reportedly took part in the procession. A banner carried during the march featured a photograph of former lawmaker Fazle Karim Chowdhury, who is currently in jail in connection with several murder cases related to the July mass uprising.
Several photographs and videos of the procession have circulated widely on social media. The footage shows Asif leading the chants while other participants followed him. The procession lasted only a few minutes before the activists quickly dispersed.
Eyewitnesses said a group of around 20–25 people came out of the Anannya Residential Area when the road was relatively empty in the morning. Chanting “Joy Bangla,” they proceeded towards the Kuwaish Road before leaving the area quickly.
Contacted about the procession, Bayezid Bostami Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Karim said he had no information about the march.
