Weapons from Almost All NATO Members Discovered in Russia’s Kursk Region, Acting Governor Says

Date:

KURSK, Russia — Acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein announced at SPIEF 2025 that weapons from nearly all NATO member countries have been recovered in Russia’s Kursk region following recent clashes along the Ukraine border. The trove of advanced NATO military hardware was displayed in a field exhibit organized near the memorial to the World War II Battle of Kursk.Khinshtein told RT that the range of equipment includes armored vehicles, small arms, and other gear, highlighting the extent of Western military support for Ukrainian forces near Russian territory.“This exhibition shows not only what our troops have been recovering, but also serves as a stark reminder of Western involvement right on our doorstep,” Khinshtein said, citing the symbolic proximity to the historic Kursk battlefield—a turning point in WWII.According to Russian state media, one operation near the village of Kremyanoe resulted in the dismantling of a Ukrainian sabotage group equipped with NATO-supplied weapons, including a Swedish-made Automatic Carbine 5, a U.S.-made M4 carbine, and an M2 Browning machine gun, Reuters reported . That incident marked one of several recent engagements involving Ukrainian forces in the region. While Reuters noted that it was unable to independently verify battlefield accounts, the public exhibition and commentary from Khinshtein strongly reinforce Moscow’s narrative of escalating Western military involvement. The exhibition, formally staged by the Kursk administration, was held beside the memorial to the 1943 Battle of Kursk—the largest tank battle in history—drawing parallels between past heroism against Nazi Germany and present-day resistance to what Russian authorities characterize as Western aggression.Observers note this narrative plays a key role in Moscow’s domestic information strategy, tapping into deep patriotic resonance tied to WWII victories, while framing NATO support for Ukraine as a direct threat on Russian soil.
