Kyiv, July 12:Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has announced her resignation after President Volodymyr Zelensky unveiled plans for a sweeping cabinet reshuffle and the formation of a new government.
In a post on her verified Facebook account on Sunday, Svyrydenko said it had been an honor to serve as prime minister and thanked the entire government team for their dedication and work.
Earlier, Zelensky said on Telegram that Ukraine required a renewed cabinet to meet the country’s evolving challenges. He said he had discussed the planned changes with the outgoing prime minister and praised her leadership, while proposing that she take on another important role within the government.
“We agreed that the cabinet needs to be renewed,” Zelensky said, thanking Svyrydenko for her service and describing her contribution as productive and effective.
Svyrydenko had served as prime minister for less than a year, taking office on July 17, 2025, after succeeding Denys Shmyhal. Until a new government is approved by parliament, Shmyhal—currently the first deputy prime minister and energy minister—is expected to serve as acting prime minister.
Zelensky did not identify Svyrydenko’s successor or provide a detailed explanation for the abrupt reshuffle. However, in a separate statement on X, he outlined key priorities for the new administration, including accelerating Ukraine’s bid to join the European Union, reinforcing border security, and assigning new leadership across several areas of foreign policy.
Under Ukrainian law, any cabinet changes require parliamentary approval. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, however, lawmakers have largely backed Zelensky’s proposals, making parliamentary approval of the reshuffle widely expected.
