Washington, June 25:
US President Donald Trump is set to launch weeks of nationwide celebrations marking America’s 250th birthday with a high-profile rally at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
The opening event, described by Trump as a “Rally to America,” will feature military flyovers, performances by patriotic singer Lee Greenwood, and a presidential address. The celebration is part of the broader “America250” initiative, commemorating the semiquincentennial of the United States.
The 16-day “Great American State Fair,” running from June 25 to July 10, will showcase all 50 states along with US territories, stretching from the Capitol to the Washington Monument. Organizers say the event is meant to celebrate American heritage, culture, and achievements.
However, the festivities have sparked controversy over alleged politicisation. Several musicians, including Martina McBride and Bret Michaels, withdrew from scheduled performances, citing concerns over the event’s ties to Trump-backed group Freedom 250.
Beyond Washington, celebrations will spread nationwide, including fireworks displays, concerts, and commemorative events in cities such as New York City, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles.
The anniversary celebrations are expected to continue through July 4, with organizers promising one of the largest fireworks displays in US history.
