Dhaka, June 25: India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, , has been granted status equivalent to that of a Union Cabinet Minister for official protocol purposes, according to a press release issued by the Indian High Commission on Thursday.
The statement said that although the official Table of Precedence has not been formally amended, the status has been conferred specifically for ceremonial and official functions.
It clarified that the arrangement is temporary and applicable only in the context of official engagements, and should not be considered a permanent revision of India’s protocol hierarchy.
The notice also mentioned the name of Kamalesh Ravidas, a secretary under the Government of India, in relation to the order.
The development is being viewed as a significant diplomatic gesture, reflecting the importance of India-Bangladesh relations amid evolving regional dynamics.
