National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan yesterday warned that if the ruling party resorts to violence against political opponents, his party would respond in the same manner, saying, “If they want violence, no one can do it better than us.”

He made the remarks while condemning an alleged attack on NCP leader Nasiruddin Patwary in Jhenidah.

According to Asif Mahmud, activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party attacked Patwary and local NCP leaders, leaving at least three people with head injuries.

Speaking at a programme at the Jatiya Press Club, he alleged that the ruling party was attempting to suppress opposition voices through repression and violence.

The event was organised to welcome 229 leaders and activists of United People’s Bangladesh (UP Bangladesh) — a political platform formed by former leaders of Islami Chhatra Shibir — into the NCP, according to Prothom Alo.
