Arsenal have been crowned champions of the Premier League for the first time in 22 years after Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
The result confirmed Arsenal as champions of the 2025/26 Premier League season with one match still remaining. Mikel Arteta’s side now sit four points clear of Manchester City after 37 matches, making it mathematically impossible for the defending champions to catch them.
City entered the match knowing that only a victory would keep their title hopes alive. However, Bournemouth took the lead in the first half through Eli Junior Kroupi, putting pressure on Pep Guardiola’s men throughout the game.
Although Erling Haaland scored a late equalizer for City, the draw was not enough to prevent Arsenal from securing the title.
The triumph marks Arsenal’s 14th English league title and their first since the famous “Invincibles” season of 2003/04. It is also a major milestone for manager Mikel Arteta, who has transformed the club into one of Europe’s strongest teams after several years of rebuilding.
Adding an emotional twist to the story, Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola — a childhood friend of Arteta — played an indirect but decisive role in helping Arsenal secure the championship by stopping City from winning.
The draw also secured Bournemouth’s first-ever qualification for European competition next season, with the club still holding an outside chance of reaching the UEFA Champions League.
Speaking after the match, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola congratulated Arsenal on their achievement.
“They deserve it. It’s a very special moment for them,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.
Arsenal will officially celebrate the title when they face Crystal Palace in their final league match of the season.
