The cost of the United States’ military campaign against Iran, known as Operation Epic Fury, has climbed sharply to nearly $29 billion, according to the Pentagon’s top budget official.

Speaking during a congressional hearing on Tuesday, Pentagon Comptroller Jules Hurst told lawmakers that the Department of Defense now estimates the overall cost of the conflict to be significantly higher than previously projected.

Just two weeks ago, Hurst had informed Congress that the war was expected to cost around $25 billion. However, updated calculations now show an additional $4 billion increase, bringing the total estimated expenditure close to $29 billion.

Hurst said the revised figure reflects growing expenses linked to repairing damaged military equipment, replacing destroyed assets and covering broader operational costs associated with the ongoing campaign.

The rising financial burden comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and continuing uncertainty over prospects for a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.
