Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the contributions of party workers following a historic electoral surge by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly election.
In his first reaction after early results emerged, Modi said the victory would not have been possible without the “countless efforts and sacrifices” of party workers over generations. In a post on social media platform X, he wrote that he salutes every worker who has worked tirelessly on the ground, overcome challenges, and consistently promoted the party’s development agenda.
According to the Election Commission of India, as of 6:30 PM on Monday, the BJP was leading in 205 of the 294 seats in West Bengal. Meanwhile, the ruling All India Trinamool Congress, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was ahead in 82 seats.
The outcome points to a significant political shift in West Bengal, a state long dominated by the Trinamool Congress. If the trend holds, it could mark a major breakthrough for the BJP in eastern India and potentially reshape the country’s broader political dynamics.
