WASHINGTON, April 30, 2026 — The United States has spent approximately $25 billion on its ongoing military operations against Iran, according to a senior Pentagon budget official who briefed lawmakers on Wednesday.

Speaking before the House Armed Services Committee, Defense Department Comptroller Jay Hurst said the funds were allocated under “Operation Epic Fury,” with the bulk of the spending directed toward munitions. The remaining costs were used for operations and maintenance.

This marks the first public estimate of the war’s cost since hostilities began on February 28 under the administration of President Donald Trump.

Despite growing concerns, both Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have declined to specify how long the conflict may continue. Earlier this month, the United States and Israel scaled back direct offensive strikes, shifting instead toward intensified economic measures against Tehran.

The situation has heightened global economic fears, particularly after Iran effectively restricted access through the Strait of Hormuz in response to continued U.S. naval pressure on its ports.

Hurst noted that once a comprehensive assessment is completed, the White House is expected to submit a supplemental budget request to Congress. During the hearing, Hegseth avoided questions from Representative Ro Khanna regarding potential future costs of the war.
The ongoing conflict and its financial burden continue to draw scrutiny from lawmakers amid rising geopolitical and economic uncertainty.
