GAIBANDHA, Bangladesh — A group of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinees blocked the Dhaka–Rangpur highway in Palashbari upazila, triggering severe traffic disruption after they failed to receive their examination admit cards.
The protest broke out on the eve of the national examinations, when around 50 students from Giridharipur Adarsha High School alleged that their admit cards had not been issued. Frustrated and anxious about missing the crucial exam, the students, joined by their guardians, took to the streets and staged a blockade on the key highway.
The demonstration caused long tailbacks on both sides of the road, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded and resulting in significant inconvenience for passengers.
“We were left with no option but to protest. Without admit cards, we cannot sit for the exams,” one of the protesting students said.
Local residents also voiced concern, saying the delay had created panic among families and disrupted normal life in the area.
Upon receiving reports of the situation, officials from the local administration rushed to the scene and held discussions with the protesters. Authorities assured the students that the admit cards would be distributed promptly.
Following the assurance, the students lifted the blockade, allowing traffic to resume.
Officials have yet to clarify the exact reason behind the delay in issuing the admit cards. However, they have pledged to investigate the matter and ensure that such incidents do not recur.
The SSC examination is one of the most important public examinations in Bangladesh, and any disruption often leads to widespread concern among students and guardians.
