A coalition of 11 Islamist political parties has announced a second phase of nationwide programs demanding the implementation of what they describe as the people’s referendum verdict.
The announcement came on Thursday (April 16) after a meeting at Al-Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar, Dhaka. The programs were declared by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General, Mia Golam Parwar.
According to Parwar, a mass rally will be held in the capital, Dhaka, on April 18. This will be followed by rallies in all divisional cities on April 25 and in every district town on May 2. He also said that seminars will be held across the country from April 18 to May 2.
Parwar alleged that the hopes of the people expressed through the national election and referendum have not been fulfilled. He accused the current government of ignoring the public mandate and taking a position against the people.
He further criticized what he described as government threats to suppress the movement, calling such actions “fascist and unconstitutional.” He warned that if the government behaves like a “fallen regime” in suppressing public protests, it could face similar consequences.
He also announced that after May 2, the alliance will hold rallies in divisional cities and protest gatherings in 12 city corporations, where top leaders of the 11-party alliance will be present. Following this phase, a large rally will be organized in the capital, with the date to be announced later.
