Amid the ongoing conflict with Iran, the United States Department of Defense has removed its top uniformed Army officer, General Randy George, from his post.
According to Pentagon sources, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth instructed General George to take early retirement, a decision that has taken immediate effect. The move was later confirmed in an official Pentagon statement.
General George had been serving as the 41st Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army since August 2023. In its statement, the Defense Department expressed gratitude for his decades of service and wished him success in his retirement.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the department appreciates General George’s long-standing commitment to national service.
Since taking office last year, Hegseth has dismissed more than a dozen senior generals and admirals. The removal of General George is the latest in a series of high-level leadership changes within the U.S. military.
The decision comes at a critical moment, as military tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate.
