Dhaka, March 27, 2026 — A court has placed model Misti Subhash on remand following her arrest for allegedly chanting the slogan “Joy Bangla” and attempting to create disorder during Independence and National Day observances at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar.
Subhash was presented before the court on Friday, where police requested her remand to facilitate a thorough investigation. The court approved the request, granting her a two-day remand.
Police allege that she publicly shouted the slogan in a manner intended to disrupt the solemn event. She was detained around 2:00 pm on Thursday near the memorial’s fountain.
In a press release later that afternoon, Dhaka District Police stated that three individuals were detained while trying to lay floral tributes at the main altar on behalf of the Bangladesh Awami League and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The tribute included an A4-sized paper reading: “Humble respect to all martyrs.”
The detainees—Tahmina Akter (40), Misti Subhash (28), and Rakibul Islam Durjoy (32)—are currently being held at Ashulia Police Station, with legal proceedings ongoing. The court also granted a three-day remand for Rakibul Islam Durjoy.
