A three-day Bangabandhu International Book Fair 2026 is set to take place in New York from May 15 to 17, bringing together writers, journalists, cultural figures, and publishers from different parts of the world.
The event is being organized by Ekattorer Prohori Foundation with the aim of highlighting the spirit of the Great Liberation War, the humanitarian ideals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the values of Bengali language and literature.
According to the organizers, the fair will be held at the Islamic Center in Long Island City, New York, and will feature a wide range of literary and cultural activities over three days. The opening ceremony will take place on Friday afternoon, where prominent writers,
journalists, cultural personalities, and distinguished guests will attend as special invitees.
The program lineup includes seminars, symposiums, discussions on Bangabandhu’s ideals, poetry recitations, book discussions, and the unveiling of new publications. Cultural performances, including songs, stage performances, and other artistic presentations, will also be held as part of the event.
Organizers said the fair will bring participation from North America, Europe, Bangladesh, India, and other regions. Several publishing houses from Bangladesh and India have already expressed interest in joining the fair with book stalls and publications.
Preparations for the event are currently in full swing. Invitation letters are being sent to guests, and various committees have been formed to coordinate the arrangements. A special souvenir magazine is also planned to mark the occasion.
The organizers expressed hope that the event will serve as a global platform to promote Bengali literature and culture while strengthening connections among the Bangladeshi diaspora and the wider literary community.
