No casualties reported as Italian troops take shelter during overnight strike near Erbil.

A missile attack targeted an Italian military base in the Kurdistan region of Iraq overnight, though no casualties were reported, according to the Italian Ministry of Defence.

In a statement posted on X shortly after midnight Wednesday, the ministry said a missile struck near its base in Erbil. It confirmed that none of the Italian personnel stationed at the base were killed or injured and that all were safe.

The ministry added that Italy’s Defence Minister Guido Crosetto has been in constant contact with senior military commanders following the incident.

Meanwhile, Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said in a separate post that Italian troops took shelter in a bunker during the attack and remained safe.

According to the Italian Defence Ministry’s website, about 300 Italian soldiers are currently deployed in Erbil as part of a mission to train Kurdish security forces in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.

The attack comes amid rising tensions across the Middle East linked to the ongoing confrontation involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Authorities have not yet identified who was responsible for the strike.
