US Embassy in Dhaka Issues Warning Over Misuse of Visitor Visas

Applicants attempting to complete adoption processes on B1/B2 visas may face fraud allegations and legal complications, embassy says

The United States Embassy in Dhaka has warned that attempting to complete international adoption procedures using a visitor visa could violate established legal processes.
In a message issued on Monday (March 9), the embassy said trying to finalize adoption while traveling on a B1/B2 visitor visa may bypass required legal procedures and could be considered visa fraud.

According to the embassy, using a visitor visa for adoption-related purposes can lead to serious immigration and legal complications. Such actions may risk violating the Hague Adoption Convention, as well as immigration laws in the United States and the legal framework of the child’s country of origin.

Officials cautioned that knowingly applying for a B1/B2 visa while intending to avoid the proper legal adoption process could result in the application being treated as fraudulent.
The embassy urged applicants to follow the appropriate legal procedures when pursuing international adoption to avoid potential legal consequences and immigration issues.
