Multiple Minor Earthquakes Shake the United States, 28 Tremors Recorded in Four Hours

USGS reports more than 100 earthquakes across the country in 24 hours, most with low magnitudes and no major damage

Washington — Several parts of the United States have experienced a series of minor earthquakes, with at least 28 tremors recorded within just four hours, according to monitoring data.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a total of 108 earthquakes measuring magnitude 1.5 or higher were recorded across the United States over the past 24 hours. In the last seven days, the number has reached 731, while nearly 3,707 earthquakes have been registered during the past 30 days.

Most of the recent earthquakes were relatively weak. The latest tremor measured magnitude 1.5 near Lovelock in Nevada at a depth of around four kilometers. Earlier, earthquakes measuring 1.9 and 2.0 magnitudes were recorded in Van Horn, Texas and Soledad, California respectively.

Additional minor seismic activities were also detected in several regions, including volcanic zones in Hawaii, as well as parts of Alaska and New Mexico.

According to USGS data, the strongest earthquake recorded in the country this week occurred in Cushatta, Louisiana with a magnitude of 4.9. Meanwhile, the largest quake recorded this month struck Unalaska in Alaska with a magnitude of 6.1.

Experts say small earthquakes occur frequently in the United States, particularly in seismically active regions such as Alaska, California and Hawaii. However, most of these tremors do not cause significant damage.
