Donald Trump has claimed that recent military operations against Iran have destroyed at least 42 Iranian warships and inflicted major damage on the country’s naval, air, and communications capabilities.
Speaking at an event in Florida, Trump said U.S. forces carried out a series of strikes that significantly weakened Iran’s military power. According to him, the attacks targeted key naval assets as well as a large portion of Iran’s air force and parts of its telecommunications infrastructure.
Trump also stated that earlier U.S. strikes had targeted facilities linked to Iran’s nuclear program. He claimed that before those attacks, Tehran had been very close to acquiring nuclear weapons.
Describing the ongoing campaign as a “major success,” the U.S. president said the strikes had dealt a decisive blow to Iran’s military strength.
The conflict has also resulted in casualties among U.S. troops. At least six American service members have been killed so far during the ongoing hostilities.
Trump is expected to travel later to Dover Air Force Base, where he will attend a ceremonial transfer honoring the remains of the six fallen soldiers.
There has been no immediate response from Iranian authorities regarding Trump’s latest claims.
