U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a major agreement with leading technology companies aimed at preventing electricity price increases for American households as artificial intelligence infrastructure rapidly expands.
At a White House event, major tech firms including Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle, and xAI signed the “Ratepayer Protection Pledge,” committing to pay for the additional electricity generation required to power their expanding AI data centers.
The initiative comes as the rapid growth of artificial intelligence has led to a surge in energy demand, particularly from large-scale data centers that power cloud computing and AI systems.
President Trump said the pledge ensures that the expansion of AI infrastructure will not raise electricity costs for American families. According to the agreement, technology companies will cover the costs of new power generation and grid upgrades needed to support their facilities, rather than passing those expenses on to residential consumers.
Energy officials and industry leaders say the initiative aims to balance two priorities: maintaining U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence while protecting households from higher electricity bills.
Supporters of the plan argue that allowing tech companies to invest directly in energy infrastructure could strengthen the national power grid, create jobs, and ensure long-term energy stability as demand grows.
Executives from several technology companies welcomed the pledge, describing it as a collaborative approach between government and industry that supports innovation while safeguarding affordability for communities.
The White House said the agreement marks a significant step toward ensuring that the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure strengthens the U.S. economy without placing additional financial pressure on ordinary consumers.
