UK Withdraws Embassy Staff from Iran Over Security Concerns

British mission in Tehran to operate remotely as regional tensions rise amid U.S. military buildup and warnings from President Donald Trump.

The United Kingdom has temporarily withdrawn its embassy staff from Iran, citing the country’s current “security situation.”
The UK’s Foreign Office confirmed on Friday (February 27) that personnel working at the British Embassy in Tehran have been pulled out as a precautionary measure. The embassy will continue to operate remotely until further notice.

This is not the first such move in recent weeks. The British mission in Tehran was also temporarily closed last month amid heightened tensions.

The announcement comes at a time of escalating regional uncertainty, with U.S. President Donald Trump repeatedly warning of potential military action against Iran. Meanwhile, the United States has been assembling one of its largest military deployments in decades across the Middle East and the Mediterranean.

On Thursday (February 26), the U.S. Navy’s largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, departed Souda Bay as part of the ongoing military movements in the region, according to media reports.

While British officials have not directly linked the withdrawal to specific threats, the decision underscores growing international concern over the rapidly evolving security landscape surrounding Iran.
