Hundreds Rally in Chunarughat Demanding Unconditional Release of Barrister Suman

Tea workers and locals form human chain in Habiganj, allege ‘conspiracy case’ against former MP

Chunarughat, Habiganj, Feb 23 — The streets of Chunarughat in Habiganj district turned turbulent on Monday as hundreds of tea workers and local residents staged a human chain and protest rally demanding the unconditional release of former lawmaker Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman.

The demonstration took place in the Daragaon tea garden area under Habiganj-4 (Chunarughat-Madhabpur) constituency. Participants gathered with banners and chanted slogans calling for the immediate release of the former Member of Parliament, describing him as a “messenger of humanity” who had long stood by the underprivileged.

Protesters alleged that Barrister Suman had been implicated in what they termed a “conspiracy-driven and false case” out of political jealousy and an attempt to sideline him from public service. They claimed his growing popularity and grassroots engagement had made him a target.

Video footage from the scene showed hundreds of men and women standing along the road in front of the Daragaon tea garden, chanting slogans such as “We want justice, we want Suman’s release” and “We are not afraid; we will not leave the streets.”

Speakers at the rally said Barrister Suman had consistently supported poor and marginalized communities, contributing to local infrastructure development and offering personal financial assistance to those in need. “He has always stood beside the people. Today he is being detained through a planned conspiracy. We demand his immediate and unconditional release,” one speaker said.

The demonstrators warned that if their demands were not met promptly, residents of Chunarughat and Madhabpur, along with tea workers, would launch more intense protest programs.

Following the rally, a procession marched through the main roads of the Daragaon tea garden area, reiterating their call for his release.
