Dhaka, Tuesday — Mahfuz Alam, a former adviser to the interim government and ex–special assistant to the chief adviser, has sharply criticized what he described as a “pre-arranged” election, calling on political actors to stop what he termed the “drama” of opposition after accepting such an arrangement.
In a statement posted Tuesday afternoon on his verified Facebook account, Mahfuz alleged that certain groups had reached an understanding over the election and were now publicly opposing it.
“Stop the drama of opposition after accepting a pre-arranged election. Those who arranged it and those who accepted it stand on one side — the জনগণ stand on the other,” he wrote.
Recalling the July–August mass uprising and the sacrifices made by students, he expressed deep frustration, suggesting that their movement had been compromised. “It pains me for the students. They were sold off at a very cheap price,” he added.
Mahfuz further alleged that public relations campaigns and media manipulation were being used to undermine what he described as the people’s legitimate movement. “The rightful struggle of the people will now be devoured by these swindlers through PR campaigns and media manipulation,” he claimed.
He concluded his post with a prayer for the nation, writing, “May Allah protect the people of this country.”
The post quickly gained traction on social media, triggering widespread debate. While many users voiced support for his remarks, others questioned the basis of his allegations, intensifying the online discussion surrounding the election process.
